GKN Aerospace

Serving the world's leading aircraft and aero-engine manufacturers.

The Partnership.

GKN Aerospace are a major global tier one supplier to the Aerospace sector. They are an industry leading global aviation engineering business, with 15,000 employees in 48 manufacturing locations in 14 countries around the world. All major aircraft and engine manufacturers rely on GKN advanced technologies; their aerostructures, engine systems and special products improve the performance of more than 100,000 flights every day.

The challenges they were facing.

GKN announced the H2 GEAR programme in 2021 – a research and development project with the aim of exploring the applications of hydrogen propulsion systems for commercial aircraft. Focusing on such emerging technology, the business needed to identify and attract a range of niche skillsets that were not readily available on the market.

Their traditional recruitment methods were unsuccessful and they felt the need to engage with a specialist talent partner.

The solutions we presented.

Piper Maddox were engaged to scour the market for technical engineers across a range of disciplines including Aircraft System Architecture, Fuel Systems, Cryogenics, Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Power Systems.

Results.

During the first six months of this flagship programme, Piper Maddox were instrumental in getting the project up to speed; filling 12 of the most challenging requirements. Piper Maddox continue to act as an exclusive external recruitment partner on what is one of Europe’s largest Hydrogen Propulsion projects.

Testimonial.

“They approached me through LinkedIn on the 12th of May, with an enquiry if I would be interested to have a conversation about a new role that he was recruiting for GKN Aerospace. Shortly after we had a very pleasant telephone conversation which led to an official interview with GKN, and finally I was given an attractive employment offer a few days later. They were very kind, professional and supportive during this whole process. The engagement and drive to discover my technical and personal skills, make connections against GKN requirements, and offer help in my preparation prior and post the interview has been absolutely exceptional. I believe his judgement is backed by his technical expertise, people skills, and his genuine desire to deliver value to the organisations that he is recruiting for.”
