Artificial Intelligence "more dangerous than nukes!"

Elon Musk hit the stage at SXSW this week to talk Mars, Tesla and Artificial Intelligence. I don't know about you, but the informative interview left me with way more questions than answers, particularity when it comes to the subject of AI. The Government commissioned an independent review into the development of AI in the UK last year. The findings were that AI shouldn't be subject to direct regulation, but an AI council should oversea the industry. Are the suggestions of Wendy Hall and BenevolentTech CEO Jérôme Pesenti enough to keep us safe? Should we not demand regulation and controls over the development of AI? As Elon says, you wouldn't let just anyone build a nuke! (Cheery stuff ay?!!!). According to Elon, it is inevitable the world will slip into a dark age... he should try being a Spurs fan, like me! Pattern Energy

The Partnership.

Pattern Energy is one of the world’s largest privately-owned developers and operators of wind, solar, transmission, and energy storage project assets across North America, Japan, and parts of Latin America.

Its operational portfolio includes 30 renewable energy facilities that use proven, best-in-class technology. Pattern Energy is guided by a long-term commitment to serve customers, protect the environment, and strengthen communities.

The challenges they were facing.

After many years of Piper Maddox reaching out to Pattern, Michael Wald made the connect through his network with Eric Roberts (Patterns Director of Finance) who introduced him to the head of HR.

At the start of the relationship, we agreed to work under a contingent model as they had a number of recruiters they worked with in the past, but wanted to limit the amount of firms they work with, so they cancelled several contracts.

The solutions we presented.

We ended up placing two candidates into their Portfolio Finance team which allowed us to create a much closer partnership. Off the back of that, we ended up placing six candidates into the firm on a contingent engagement contract.

In 2022, pattern acquired Dynamic Energy and Solect energy and was going to rapidly ramp up their hiring across all firms while keeping their TA function lean. Because of this increase in hiring, they were looking for one firm to engage with on a high-volume model.

We offered them a 20-role project retainer engagement to help given them the best pricing possible with no expiration date on using the credits as they were not sure if the hiring was going to ramp up more in 2023 or 2024.

The Results.

Throughout 2022 and 2023, Piper Maddox was engaged on 16 active roles with Pattern (and their subsidiaries) and we have placed 14 professionals into the firm.
